We Are Not Reaching People Fast Enough

Time Is Not On Huey’s Side

Reach Rescue Is Desperate For Your Help

Meet Huey…This adorable little boy (a Cavapoo) has a liver shunt which means blood is not filtering through the liver the way it should be to remove blood born toxins, synthesize and distribute protein, and store sugar. Without surgery he will have a very short life expectancy. Our decision is a tough one because the quoted price for the necessary  emergency  surgery is over $6,400.00 and without it he will have to be euthanized. Huey is only 4 months old and is suffering this genetic mutation as a result of over breeding in a PUPPY MILL!

Here is  our newest Reach Rescue member, Huey.  This poor lil’ fella is only four months old and has had a very rough start at life.  You see, he was the product of a puppy mill and sold to a broker who then turned around and sold him to a family.  Once introduced into his new household his family quickly noticed that something was not right with him.  One minute their beloved pet was seemingly healthy and next thing they knew he was pacing, falling over, and running into things.  Huey’s family took him into their local emergency vet where he spent the next three days enduring test after test as the doctors tried to figure out what was wrong with him.  From the emergency vet Huey was transferred to the families regular vet where more testing was done.  The vets did as much testing as the family could financially withstand, and felt certain that Huey was born with a liver shunt and would need more testing to determine if it was treatable.

At this point Huey’s family did not feel comfortable moving forward with their new puppy and his medical needs.  He was quickly returned to the puppy broker who told the family that he would be going back to the “breeder”.  The family was given another puppy (this one NOT BROKEN) and they went about their merry way.  As it turns out the broker was “feeling sympathetic” did not actually send the puppy back to the breeder.  She felt that when she received the puppy back into her care that it was doing better…miraculously…and may be cured.  She said that had she sent him back to the breeder they would have just euthanized him anyway.  So she did the “next best thing” and gave him away for FREE on Craigslist.  How nice of her…

This is where the story gets really good.  You see, we feel that this little lost soul was meant to end up in our care.  On Tuesday, April 19th one of our volunteers from the rescue saw a Craigslist post about a little Cavapoo puppy that may need medical care and would be free to a good home who can give her the care she needs.  This volunteer immediately sent an email to the person who put up the post asking them to allow a rescue to take the dog into their care to assure that it gets the medical attention that it needs.  The volunteer did not receive a response.  However, this same volunteer received a call from Waukegan Animal Control the very next day asking if Reach Rescue could help with a Cavopoo puppy that was given away for free on Craigslist and then dumped the very next morning at Animal Control…a coincidence…we like to think of it as fate.

Now in Reach Rescue’s Care where he will safe and loved, and later (hopefully) adopted, Reach turns to you to ask for your help.  Your donations will not only save Huey, but it will also give him the opportunity to live the long and healthy life he deserves!
